Ranking The Coolest Used SUVs That Feature Captain Seats

1

Captain seats are easily one of the coolest features a family hauler can have, and these amazing used SUVs all come equipped with it.

Captain seats are both a cool and practical feature for passenger cars because they both increase safety and provide a comfortable, spacious ride. Captain seats have been a standard feature of full sized SUVs for years, and some models have figured out how to balance both style and comfort, while others are less concerned with luxury and are more concerned with practicality. There is something to appreciate about both approaches, but even a practical day-to-day passenger and cargo car can be appealing.

Cool isn’t just for sports and muscle cars, SUVs can get in on that action and several do. The cool SUVs on this list all feature captain seats and can be found used for reasonable prices.

Volvo XC90

With 4 cylinders, 250 horsepower, and 258 lb-ft torque, the 2022 Volvo XC90 starts at around $50,000 new. However, used models feature most of the same features and engine power.

So if one is willing to shop a bit, the XC90 could be theirs for $40,000. As this is one of the more expensive entries on the list, let’s look at some more affordable options,

Nissan Armada

Costing $1,000 less than a base XC90 and coming in with 400 horsepower, the Nissan Armada is both a great cargo and passenger car (it seats 8) and a great off-roader.

While newer models are relatively expensive, when shopping used one can find a 2018 or 2019 model for around $30,000. For 400 hp that is quite a deal!

GMC Acadia

GMC makes some of the most durable trucks and SUVs on the market and the Acadia is one of their best. For a gas-burning SUV, it gets decent mileage (up to 29 MPG highway) and comes with either a 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a V6 engine.

When buying used a GMC Acadia can be found for as low as $27,000 or as high as $45,000 depending on the trim. The Acadia is also one of the more affordable SUVs, as the 2022 base models start at $34,000.

Buick Enclave

Buick only recently entered the market for SUVs a few years ago, but they now account for a respectable chunk of the market. The standard Enclave comes with a V6 Engine and in addition to its captain seats it has a spacious and comfortable interior.

New Enclaves start at $45,000. But Carfax and Carvana have listings of older, barely used models starting at $25,000.

Subaru Ascent

Subaru, more akin to making wagons and sedans, ventured into SUVs and the result was the Ascent. The first entry on our list to feature a turbo engine, the Ascent can hit 260 horsepower with no problem.

Subarus are famously affordable, and while it might not be as sexy as an SUV as an Escalade or as posh as the Acadia, it is a practical purchase and is affordable when bought new. Base models for the 2022 Ascent start at only $32,000.

Honda Pilot

Pilots, now in their third generation, come with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and 280 horsepower. In 2021 a nine-speed automatic transmission became standard for all Pilot trims.

Also, while the car isn’t much to look at (not ugly, just not impressive or sexy) it has some of the highest safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Used models can be found anywhere between $27,000 to $50,000.
